With hackers furiously cracking the passwords coming out of the Ashley Madison data leak, we have a list of the top passwords that users had for their Ashley Madison accounts. As expected, most of the passwords are weak.
5 out of the top ten are sequences of numbers, and the usual “password” also thrown in. It is mind boggling how people continue to use simple passwords, even for sites like this which can have serious consequences for them, if breached.
Comparing this list with the one from my 2010 post on poor online password practices is very interesting. The lists are very close, meaning that people have not learned any lessons in the 5 years with so many high-profile breaches and data loss stories.
A larger list of passwords can be found here.
