Ten Principles of Information Technology

Saw these 10 principles of information technology on a printout someone had. I did not think these up, someone else did. But I think they make very good sense and should be kept in mind by everyone in this field.

  1. Business strategy must guide all technology decisions
  2. Reduce technical complexity and diversity
  3. Build for competitive advantage, buy for parity
  4. Build modular, loosely coupled solutions
  5. Build for reuse and leverage reusable assets
  6. Effectively manage third party relationships
  7. Prefer market leading vendors, products and service providers
  8. Create value driven technology solutions
  9. Data is a corporate asset
  10. Manage architecture globally
